What is the biggest species of octopus?

**Thanks to Aparna Palmer for submitting this question**
Question:
Hello! How large do members of the genus Octopus get? What size range exists for these animals? I had a student in class ask me how large an octopus can get and I would like to find out for her! Unfortunately, here at my landlocked college, I was unable to dig up library resources on these animals! I would really appreciate your help!
Answer:
The giant pacific octopods are the largest species of octopus. Mature giant octopuses are commonly found in the 10-15 kg range although one specimen weighted 272 kg and measured 9.6 meters arm to arm.
