Hello Dr. Wood, Thank you for providing such an excellent resource as The Cephalopod Page. I don't know much about octopuses, but at least now I know a heck of a lot more since reading your 'page'. It is quite apparent that it has involved a lot of work to set up and maintain TCP. This may seem like an obvious question - but what inspired you to set it up in the first place?
Answer:
I feel that the Internet is a great tool for education. Additionally it is a great way for scientists, who are often viewed as aloof by the public and misunderstood by the media, to directly give back to the public whose taxes support many of us. Besides, I've made some good friends over the 'net. Some of the questions really impress me - for example a girl in grammar school once asked why cephalopods have 3 hearts. I was very impressed that she even knew cephalopods have 3 hearts! Many of the questions force me to think about things that might not otherwise cross my mind. So students, keep those questions coming - just try to keep them focused and reasonable - please remember that my time and other resources are limited. I'm most likely to give longer and more informative answers to messages from people that have already taken the initiative and found out or tried to find out information on their own. Also, if you ask me something that is covered on my web page I will point you to the relevant url. Dr. James Wood
