Dear James, I am a grade six teacher. One of my groups is doing the Octopus as part of their ocean assignment. We have been unable to find in our research the different kinds of octopus. Are there distinct types of octopus or do they just vary in size. Thanks for you help. Devon |
| Answer: |
| Devon,
There are over 100 species of octopuses in the genus Octopus alone and over 200 different species of octopuses in the Order Octopodida. The various species live from the deep-sea to the intertidal zone and from the poles to the tropics. Several representative species are illustrated with pictures on The Cephalopod Page and all species of octopuses discovered since 1998 are listed on CephBase. Dr. James B. Wood (ceph@is.dal.ca) |
