All Campus Departments Should Review Business Continuity Plans Now
The west utility plant on UTMB’s Galveston campus will soon shut down for upgrades related to the district heating and cooling project. During the shutdown, the campus’ central utility plant will provide the necessary heating and cooling service, and hot and cold water to Galveston campus facilities. The planned shutdown may begin as early as March 30 and will last approximately three weeks once it begins.
Under normal conditions, the campus operates on both the central and west plants. The central plant has to capacity to support the campus based on expected temperatures for April. All necessary measures are being taken to ensure that all buildings and facilities remain fully operational, and no adverse effects on business operations are expected during the shutdown.
That said, the Office of Business Operations and Facilities has contingency plans in place in case of unforeseen issues during the shutdown, such as higher-than-expected outdoor temperatures or a malfunction in the central plant. Some buildings may be warmer and/or more humid than normal under those circumstances.
Although the shutdown is not expected to cause any interruptions to normal operations, all Galveston campus departments/units should review and be prepared to follow their business continuity plans.
