The deadline for making changes to your benefits elections for the FY15 plan year is Thursday, July 31. 

To review or update your current coverage, log in to the My UT Benefits online system. You will need the personal identification number provided to you by the Office of Employee Benefits to access the system.

Your annual enrollment elections will become effective Monday, Sept. 1.

UTMB Diversity Council Membership Applications Now Being Accepted

Diversity is a core value at UTMB, underscoring our long-time understanding that the university community is more effective in fulfilling its vital mission when people of all perspectives and backgrounds are involved in charting our road ahead.

 If you are interested in becoming a member of the UTMB Diversity Council, click here to complete an online application. Paper copies of the application are available in Bethel Hall, Room 2.201, and the Jamail Student Center. All students, faculty, staff and employees are encouraged to apply, and the deadline for submitting an application is 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.

 Members of the Diversity Council will work together to:

  • Harness the broad spectrum of ideas, experiences and voices that characterize the UTMB community
  • Preserve an inclusive and collaborative community that actively promotes and values diversity in its broadest sense
  • Ensure that best practices in support of diversity and inclusion are woven throughout the institution

The council will meet on the third or fourth Wednesday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Teleconference connections can be arranged for members who do not work on the Galveston campus.

Please join Benefits Services on August 7th, for our Retiree Benefits Meeting. This meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Rebecca Sealy Hospital, Room 1.106. This meeting is designed to assist you in the retirement process by providing information to you regarding your benefits as a retiree from The University of Texas Medical Branch.

Family Medicine Clinics Offer Extended Weekday and Weekend Hours

The Family Medicine Island West Clinic, located at 6710 Stewart Road, is now seeing patients each Saturday from 9 am to noon.  The Saturday clinic sees patients with immediate care needs such as colds, infections, insect bites, sprains and minor injuries.  Please call the UTMB Health 24-Hour appointment line at 409-772-2222 to make a Saturday appointment. For a complete list of Saturday services please download our flyer here.  

For all routine care visits, well-check exams, perscription refill appointment and any condition that doesn’t require immediate attention, please schedule an appointment during any of the weekday hours, including the extended weekday hours at any of the Family Medicine clinics.  For more serious injury or illness please visit the UTMB Health Emergency Room.

2014 Professionalism Summit

The 2014 Professionalism Summit is August 7th.  The keynote speaker is Dr. Barbara Balik, a nationally recognized leader in developing environments for quality, safety, and staff-provider engagement.   The title of her presentation is "Interprofessionalism Practice - Why Bother?"  The event will take place in Levin Hall Dining Room between 11:30am and 1:00pm.  Lunch is provided.   You must RSVP as seating is limited.  Please call Sheryl Lashway at extension 22910 to reserve a seat.  The event is sponsored by the President's Office, HealthSystem/ Department of Nursing and the Oliver Center for Patient Safety and Quality Care, and has been coordinated by the UTMB Professionalism Committee.

In recognition of the unique contributions postdoctoral scientists make at UTMB, two new awards have been established for Outstanding Service - a $1,500 cash award and a $1,000 travel award to attend the annual meeting of the National Postdoctoral Association in Baltimore next spring.
