Rebeca Wong has received international recognition as a researcher with focus on the economic determinants and consequences of population aging; economic constraints and household and individuals’ behaviors related to health and aging; and has pioneered the use of bi-national perspectives to study health among Mexican immigrants in the U.S.
Wong's research interests include poverty and utilization of health services among the elderly, cross-national comparisons of unhealthy behaviors in old age, international migration and later old-age wellbeing, the impact of social security reform on poverty in Mexico, social disparities in physical disability and chronic diseases in old age, wealth accumulation and its determinants among the elderly, and catastrophic health care expenditures in households of Latin America.
