Message from the Provost: New Administrative Structure for School of Medicine Departments

Based on the findings of a comprehensive assessment undertaken in October, today we have begun implementing a new administrative support structure in the School of Medicine. The new structure, which organizes departments, centers and institutes into nine groups whose members are aligned in terms of type of service and/or academic endeavor, is designed to better meet the current and future needs of the Academic Enterprise.

The vice chairs for administration will transition into executive director for administration or director of administration roles. These are lateral moves into titles that more accurately reflect the responsibilities of the people in these positions. The restructuring has created vacancies that will be filled on an interim basis until national searches for permanent replacements can be completed.

More details will be shared in coming weeks as the new structure is finalized and interim appointments are made. In the meantime, employees in the Academic Enterprise with questions about how this might relate to their role should contact their department chair or Cameron Slocum in the Office of the Provost.
