As the district heating and cooling system project continues on campus, the foundation installation for the new elevated pipe support structures between the ARC Building, Mary Moody Northen Pavilion and the Medical Research Building is beginning. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be maintained with the use of signage, flagmen and designated temporary walkways.
Specific impacts within the area of 11th Street and Strand include the following:
- Sidewalk closures - signage will reroute pedestrian traffic to temporary walkways, which will be fully accessible and allow passage to adjacent sidewalks unaffected by construction activities.
- The southwest exit of Mary Moody Northen Pavilion will be closed, however the emergency egress will be maintained. The west entrance will be accessible as an entrance/egress. Pedestrian traffic will be rerouted to different accessible exits within the facility.
- The south entrance to Research Building 17 will continue to be closed for the duration of this project. An emergency egress will be maintained for the southeast stairwell. The north entrance will be open at all times during this project. All pedestrian traffic will be rerouted with signage to different accessible exits within the facility.
These impacts will be in effect from September through November 2013. For more information, please see the construction map
