Registration is underway for the 2014 Shrimp Scamper, a family fun run along Seawall Boulevard, benefitting both UTMB and the Ronald McDonald House. The annual event is part of the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival that returns Sept. 26-28. The Scamper will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 9 a.m.
All fitness levels are invited to join this non-competative event. Costumes and teams are encouraged. Skateboards, roller skates, strollers, and bikes are all welcome! Bring your dog along for the fun too!! Entry fees include an event T-shirt, gumbo cook-off tasting cup and a Shrimp Scamper surprise!
The Scamper is again benefitting the Justin David Hughes Fund at UTMB. The fund was created by the Huges Fmaily following the suicide death of their son, Justin, who was a student in the UTMB School of Medicine. The monies help to educate students and faculty on the wanrings signs, treatments for and dangers of depression.
