The winter storm is moving to the east of the greater Galveston-Houston area, and we expect rain to end at approximately 4 p.m. Accordingly, UTMB will continue normal operations today and expects to do the same on Wednesday. However, we continue to monitor the weather conditions and will advise if the situation changes.
Student activities scheduled to extend beyond 6 p.m. this evening are canceled with one exception. Students who have extended expectations, for example, who are on call, should check with their Program Director regarding the possibility of staying overnight if that is their wish. Otherwise, they too should be dismissed early.
As of midday Tuesday, temperatures generally are remaining above freezing and precipitation has been less than expected. Most precipitation in this area is expected to end by about 4 p.m.
Roadways are expected to remain passable but, as with any weather event such as this, some roads may ice over and we again urge everyone to exercise caution. Island Transit is expected to resume normal operations on Wednesday.
UTMB officials have been in contact with the Texas Department of Transportation, which is planning to keep major highways, including the Causeway and the ramp to the Emergency Room/Trauma Center, passable.
Because the forecast could change, please check iUTMB regularly for related updates. If you have any questions about your work schedule, please contact your supervisor directly.
If you see any frozen or slick areas at any UTMB location, please call 24040 for assistance.
