UT to open advanced MRI research center

Daily Texan (Internet / Print) 01/26/06

The University opened a new research center Wednesday to house a newly designed magnetic resonance imaging scanner, an $8 million project that began three years ago. The Imaging Research Center, equipped with the only 3.0 Tesla MRI scanner in the Austin area, was the result of collaboration of UT, the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System and the UT Medical Branch at Galveston. The center will be housed on the Pickle Research Campus. The Office of National Drug Control Policy contributed $4.2 million to the project, with the UT System and the veterans health-care system paying the remainder. Researchers said they hope the center will be a significant step for neurological research.
