Talking to a Teen About HPV Vaccine is a Lesson for Parents, too

Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Sept. 27, 2006 UTMB's Dr. Susan Rosenthal, a pediatric psychologist, is quoted in this discussion of the HPV vaccine. Dr. Rosenthal believes parents should still explain how genital HPV is contracted. To that end, she favors the so-called "apprenticeship model," encouraging parents to let teens make increasingly independent decisions about their health as they get older. (This Associated Press story continues to run throughout the nation and internationally.)
