Annual art gala raises money for humanitarian cause

Beaumont Enterprise, Oct. 26, 2006http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=17379371&BRD=2287&PAG=461&dept_id=512551&rfi=6 BEAUMONT - Art lovers can bid for oils, watercolors and sculptures at the annual Triangle AIDS Network's Paint the Town Red gala next month, knowing the proceeds benefit a local charity. Money raised at the Nov. 2 event - through ticket sales and an auction of some 200 pieces - will help pay for medical and psychological services for Southeast Texans suffering from AIDS and HIV, TAN social services coordinator Tam Kiehnhoff said, adding that the long-time event has raised some $500,000 so far. One of the works up for bid is "Lifecycle of HIV Showing Sites of Action of Medications" by Dr. Eric Avery. Avery, a psychotherapist at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, makes prints that usually explore issues like human rights, death, sexuality and disease.
