UTMB student wins honors at military medical center

For immediate release: March 2, 2007

GALVESTON, Texas - Capt. Tonya White, a post-master's student in the School of Nursing at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, has been named Company Grade Officer Nurse of the Year and Company Grade Officer of the Year for the 59th Medical Wing at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio.

According to Master Sgt. Kimberly A. Yearyean-Siers, of the 59th Medical Wing public affairs office, White received the officer of the year award on the basis of her military accomplishments and contributions and the officer nurse of the year award for her medical contributions and accomplishments. The awards are part of a U.S. Air Force-wide recognition program.

White now goes on to compete against other company grade officers at Lackland AFB in San Antonio.
