GALVESTON, Texas - The American Geriatric Society named Dr. Taylor Riall, a doctoral student at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, a winner of the Dennis W. Jehnigen Career Development Scholar Award. She is a student in UTMB's Graduate Program in Preventive Medicine and Community Health.
The national award recognizes Riall's research on pancreatic cancer in the elderly population. Only 10 awards are given annually, one each in 10 disciplines. Riall received the award for general surgery.
The award is for a two-year period and provides $75,000 in salary each year to support junior faculty with research interests in the geriatric aspects of their disciplines. Riall, an assistant professor in the UTMB Department of Surgery, earned her M.D. degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
