Becoming a doctor: the next step

Houston Chronicle (Internet / Print) 05/26/06 http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/life/3898295.html When Sugar Land siblings Shilpa, Shinil and Shiwan Shah moved across country for medical school, they were just 16 and 17 years old. Their mom came along, cooking meals and caring for them while they studied at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine. The three graduated this week and will return to the Houston area this summer to start their residencies. "We all wanted to be in the same place, and we all wanted to come back to Texas," says Shilpa, who will pursue a pediatric residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Her twin, Shinil, will be a general-surgery resident at UT in Houston. Shiwan is joining Shilpa at UTMB, where he will do a combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency.
