Mysorean gets international recognition

Star of Mysore (Internet / Print) 05/25/06 http://www.starofmysore.com/main.asp?type=news&item=9673 The talented academician, who has his roots in the city, Dr. B.K. Muralidhara, has done Mysore proud by bagging the coveted 'Young Investigator Award' from the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics for his outstanding achievement in the field of drug discovery and protein folding. Dr. Muralidhara is a local Mysorean who did his education in Sarada Vilas and Yuvaraja's College before going on to do his Masters and later Ph.D in Biochemistry from the University of Mysore and making his presence felt in his chosen field at the CFTRI here. His current research on drug metabolising cytochrome P450 enzymes involving innovative thermodynamic approach to understand the drug-drug and drug-protein interactions got him the international recognition. His research in Rice University, Houston, USA, showed how cofactors bind and help proteins to fold and function efficiently. Currently, Dr. Muralidhara is working as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, USA.
