Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 05/21/06 Two University of Texas Medical Branch physicians will offer advice Tuesday on how to communicate with your doctor so that you get the information you need. “The main reason we’re doing this is to look at the doctor-patient visit from the patient’s point of view,” said Barbara L. Thompson, one of the two physicians who will be teaching the class. The session will be spliced with clips from the movie “The Doctor,” starring William Hurt. “It’s perfect,” Thompson said. “As a doctor, he was the worst possible in terms of communicating with his patients, but then he became a patient himself, and he had a complete turnaround.” The doctor, in fact, wound up firing his physician. “One of our messages to patients is that you’ve got to have the kind of doctor who will listen to you, and if you don’t, you need to fire that doctor,” Thompson said.
