Lexington Herald-Leader (Internet / Print) 05/17/06 http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/living/community/14581519.htm Karen Sexton, vice president and chief executive officer of hospitals and clinics at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, has been named the 2006 Outstanding Alumna by the Eastern Kentucky University Department of Baccalaureate and Graduate School of Nursing. A native of Floyd County, Sexton received a bachelor of science degree from EKU and later received a master of science in Community Mental Health and a Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky. Beginning as a staff nurse, Sexton had a 25-year career at the University of Kentucky, where she climbed the ranks to chief nursing officer before joining UTMB as chief operating officer in 2001. In 2004, Sexton assumed her position as vice president and CEO of UTMB Hospitals and Clinics.
