Student reaches semifinals on ‘Jeopardy’

Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 05/15/06 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=380abb1f6d836502 Vikram J. Vaz will compete today in the semifinals of the “Jeopardy” tournament of champions. If he wins that game, Vaz will make the semifinals set to air on Thursday and Friday. Vaz, of course, already knows how it will all come out, but he’s not allowed to say. “We’re not supposed to talk about it until after the show airs,” he said. Vaz, a third-year medical student at the University of Texas Medical Branch, qualified for the tournament of champions by becoming a three-day winner on the show last fall. He came home from those appearances with $74,000 in winnings. So far, he has won at least $10,000 more. The overall winner will take home at least $250,000. “I’m pretty happy with how it went,” he said. “It was a great experience. It was just awesome.” (This story also appeared on KHOU-TV (CBS) Ch. 11 here: http://www.khou.com/news/local/galveston/stories/khou060515_ac_jeopardy.436dd8e0.html)
