Calorie-laden soft drinks get some of the blame for the increasing number of overweight children in the United States. In their Keeping Kids Healthy column, UTMB Drs. Sally Robinson and Keith Bly urge parents to replace sodas with healthier beverages. They note that such drinks as colas may contain high levels of caffeine that may result in sleep problems and dehydration.
