Everyone needs a primary care physician, wrote UTMB Dr. Michael Warren in his It’s Your Health column. “A primary care physician is typically a family practitioner, general internal medicine physician, a pediatrician (for kids) or an ob/gyn physician. These doctors are specialists in all of you, not just a particular organ system or part of you,” he wrote. “He or she will see to it that if you develop a problem best treated by a specialist, you get to that specialist for care. And, when that care is completed, the primary care physician will include that problem with your other problems and keep track of everything you need to continue a long and healthy life.”
