Technology one reason for high medical costs

Galveston County Daily News, April 27, 2010

In his weekly It’s Your Health column, UTMB Dr. Michael M. Warren writes that one reason for the increase in health care costs, particularly in the past two or three decades, “is the incredible expense of maintaining and updating equipment in our technological world. There’s no doubt that technology is allowing medicine to diagnose, treat and even cure more efficiently and more often than ever before. Computer enhanced X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging and radioactive materials are used to view the body’s interior, and new and more effective antibiotics and other drugs have been developed.”
