Actress brings historic characters to life

Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 06/28/06http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=6cf0d34f58529c0f While Mary Margaret Buss might not exactly be able to define the meaning of the phrase, “the American spirit,” she has managed to bring it to life. The actress will portray five characters in a one-woman performance Thursday at Garten Verein, dubbed “Voices of Freedom — Voices of Destiny.” The presentation, which has an Independence Day theme, of the five-part monologue is a collaborative effort between the Galveston Historical Foundation and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Buss will present five characterizations that trace the country’s roots, including a fictional pilgrim named Elizabeth Endicott, a Colonial-era woman, a pioneer named Sarah, Mary Todd Lincoln and an Ellis Island immigrant from the early 1900s.
