Pacific Business News (Internet / Print) 07/15/06 http://washington.bizjournals.com/pacific/stories/2006/07/10/daily63.html The University of Texas Medical Branch said this week it is committed to keeping Children’s Hospital open and even expanding some of its services. The statement came in response to questions about the facility’s future. In the past year, the hospital has curtailed the hours of its emergency room. That and the expansion of a pediatric residency program in Austin and the fact that NASA has leased space in the hospital have some employees wondering if the Galveston campus was getting out of specialized care for children altogether. “Definitely not,” UTMB wrote this week in response to questions from The Daily News. “The Department of Pediatrics has been strategically investing in pediatric specialty services and working closely with UTMB hospitals and clinics staff to focus on improving services and increasing patient satisfaction.” (This announcement has appeared widely throughout the bizjournals network.)
