Couple starts fund to find diabetes cure

Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 07/20/06 Allen and Tina LeCornu have taken a stand. They have donated $10,000 to the University of Texas Medical Branch to establish a fund that will support research aimed at finding a cure for diabetes. “Children and families everywhere are struggling with this disease, and we want that to stop,” Allen LeCornu said in a news release issued by UTMB. The LeCornus own and operate Tina’s and The Admiralty in Galveston’s Strand Historic District. Their daughter, Wendy Morgan, has lived with diabetes since she was a teenager, and their granddaughter, Ruby Christine Morgan, was 3 years old when she was diagnosed with the disease in 2004. Ruby’s father, Marshall Morgan, was diagnosed the same day physicians discovered the disease in Ruby. “We established this research fund at UTMB to help ensure that a cure will be found in Wendy and Ruby’s lifetimes,” LeCornu said.
