Like peas in a pod, UTMB Galveston and NASA Johnson Space Center just belong together. At least that was the strategic sentiment of Dr. John Stobo, as the president of UTMB Galveston addressed a joint meeting of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership and JSC chapter of the National Management Association recently. “Using bed rest as an analog for micro-gravity is an example of the partnership between UTMB and JSC where the total far exceeds the individual parts and challenges,” said Stobo to a wall-to-wall lunch crowd at the Gilruth Center. Stobo, who has been president of UTMB since 1997, cited the expansion of services in League City with its 35-acre site in Victory Lakes as a way to serve the public and also respect the established medical providers there. A specialty care center and ambulatory services are planned. “Our goal is not to compete but to go where we can add value,” he said.
