UTMB launches new scheduling, registration and billing system

In an effort to enhance the health-care experience for its patients, effective April 6, the University of Texas Medical Branch began using a new scheduling, registration and billing system. As a result, the following new and convenient services are available to patients:

One electronic medical record

All patient information will now be stored in a single, secure electronic medical record accessible to health-care providers throughout UTMB. The electronic system also allows all physicians and staff to efficiently retrieve complete, up-to-date information and to easily document the care they provide. In addition, because patient information is contained within one system, once it is updated by a provider, it is also updated and/or corrected throughout the entire UTMB Health System.

One bill

UTMB will begin providing a single billing statement for all health-care encounters. The new statement will combine all fees related to clinic visits, hospital stays and other charges associated with patient visits at UTMB.

Single point of customer service

In addition to the new statement, UTMB is also offering a single point of customer service to patients, so that all billing questions may be addressed with one phone number, instead of requiring separate phone calls to different billing offices for hospital/clinic fees and health-care provider charges. Patients may contact the Customer Service Office at 800-435-1871 or 409-747-1099.

When patients check in at any of the clinics, UTMB's Patient Services Specialists will be able to discuss outstanding balances and conveniently assist them by collecting payments toward any balance due, helping individuals stay current with their health-care financial responsibilities.

More convenient scheduling and check in

A more efficient registration system means a faster check-in process. In addition, patients will leave their clinic appointments with all follow-up appointments, referrals, consultations and diagnostic tests scheduled for them, unless they prefer to schedule at a later time.

View billing statements and pay bills online

MyChart is a secure electronic way for UTMB patients to access their health information and communicate with their UTMB health-care team. With MyChart, patients can now view billing statements online and pay family medical bills by credit card, send secure messages to health-care providers, request office appointments and view recent clinic visits. Patients can also notify their health-care team of phone and address changes, request prescriptions refills, view a list of their medications, released test results, immunizations, allergies and family medical history information.
