UTMB plans talk, free HIV testing

Houston Chronicle (Internet / Print) 02/04/06 http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/3635519.html During National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Tuesday, the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston will hold a program to educate the public about HIV and AIDS. Patrice Yarbough, an infectious diseases specialist at UTMB, will be the featured speaker at the medical school's third annual Black AIDS Awareness Day. The rate of AIDS diagnoses for black women is 25 times the rate for white women, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. UTMB will offer free HIV testing Tuesday, university officials said. The program will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Levin Hall at 10th and Market on the UTMB campus in Galveston. Garage parking is available at University Boulevard and Market.
