The pediatrics department has launched its annual toy and book drive, now through Dec. 13.
Specially requested this year are toys for babies and teens, along with children’s books.
Toys and proceeds will benefit UTMB Children’s Hospital and the Maternal-Child HIV Program.
Bring new and unwrapped toys to Room 3.300 in Research Building No. 6, formerly Children’s Hospital.

Holiday blood drive
A holiday blood drive is underway through Jan. 10.
Donors may give blood in Galveston from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in Room 5.212 of John Sealy Annex.
Donations also will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in League City at the UTMB Multispecialty Center at Victory Lakes Town Center, 2660 Gulf Freeway S., Suite 4.

UTMB clinics, schools, business areas and administrative offices will close for the Thanksgiving holiday Thursday and Friday. John Sealy Hospital and the Trauma Center remain open 24/7.
Two pediatric urgent care clinics will be open noon to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
They are at 2027 61st St., in Galveston, and at 3023 Marina Bay Drive Suite 101, in League City.
Urgent Care at the UTMB Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes, 2240 Gulf Freeway S., in League City, also will be open on these days.
All UTMB departments will reopen Monday.
