Holiday season closures

In celebration of the holidays, UTMB schools, business areas, administrative offices and most clinics will close Dec. 24-26 and New Year’s Day.

John Sealy Hospital and the Trauma Center never close. All urgent care clinics will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Dec. 24 and noon to 8 p.m. Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.

The Pediatric Primary Care clinic at Bay Colony will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 26.

All UTMB departments will reopen Jan. 2.

Geriatric care packages

For the holidays, consider donating new, unused items for UTMB’s older patients.
Requested items include robes, socks, blankets, jackets, puzzles, books and house shoes.

Donations may be dropped off through Wednesday at the geriatric clinic at the Primary Care Pavilion, 400 Harborside Drive in Galveston, the Multispecialty Center at Victory Lakes Town Center, 2660 Gulf Freeway South in League City, and the ACE Unit on the 10th floor of John Sealy Hospital at Eighth and Market streets in Galveston.

Reconstruction of a Survivor

A Christmas celebration of life is planned for the next meeting of the UTMB Breast Cancer Support Group for women diagnosed with breast cancer, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday in Suite 2.110 at the UTMB Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes, 2240 Gulf Freeway South, League City.

New Year’s Baby Shower

The newborn nursery staff is gathering donations for their eighth annual New Year’s Baby Shower.

They need new items such as baby clothes, lotion, blankets, rattles, teethers, diapers, wipes, monitors, baby bathtubs, car seats, Boppy pillows and gift cards for stores that carry baby items.

Donations will be accepted through Dec. 27. Donation boxes are located in the main lobby of John Sealy Hospital and the newborn nursery.

All babies born on Jan. 1 will receive gift baskets.

Volunteers needed for research

Researchers in the department of nutrition and metabolism at UTMB need volunteers, 55 to 75, in overall good health for a study that will look at how the interaction between exercise and nutrition influence muscle growth.

Participants chosen will receive regular medical exams and reimbursements for time and travel will be provided.
