Darlene Self has a Masters degree in Allied Health Education and Administration from the University of Houston. She completed the Teacher Education Alternative Certification Program at Blinn College and is certified by the Texas Education Agency to teach Life Sciences (grades 8-12). She also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology with a minor in chemistry from Northwestern State University. She is nationally certified as a medical technologist (MT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). As a medical educator in the Standardized Patient (SP) Program, she utilizes her background in science, healthcare, and education to recruit, train, and supervise Standardized Patients (SPs). She also assists other SP Program staff with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of high fidelity simulation exercises. Together, they design activities which teach students how to become the best clinicians possible.
