Faculty Women's Club

Old Red column

The UTMB Faculty Women’s Club (FWC) was founded in 1946 to promote fellowship, develop mutual interests, and to contribute to the growth and prosperity of UTMB. Current membership is composed of women faculty, as well as female spouses of faculty of UTMB.

The FWC believes strongly in the prosperity of the University and our community. We have implemented a Welcoming Committee that has been successful in helping in the recruitment of new faculty to the UTMB. As candidates for Faculty positions are interviewed and entertained, the FWC reaches out to the spouse. The spouse is matched with other Faculty women with common interests who help to organize tours of local school campuses, Galveston historic sites, and neighborhoods in an ongoing effort to show off our island and answer any questions they may have regarding our community.

We are very proud to announce the establishment of a $1,000.00 scholarship to a female student. The FWC scholarship will rotate through all 4 schools. We are very excited to be able to contribute to the education and career of one of the many bright students trained here at UTMB.

The FWC goal is to create a sense of community among female Faculty and wives of Faculty through our diverse programs and interest groups while at the same time contributing to the Galveston community and UTMB. We are able to connect socially through our monthly “lunch bunch,” book club, holiday events and evening social functions. The Galveston community and UTMB has been the recipient of numerous outreach opportunities including our annual toy donation to the UTMB Children’s Hospital, book drive for the “Reach out and Read” program, local charity drives, dinners for outpatients and families at the Ronald McDonald House, and sponsoring the Shriner’s Burns Hospital children and families to attend the “My Little Valentines Day Dance.”

We are always welcoming new members to our organization. For more information please contact Machele Chaljub at mchaljub@comcast.net or Martha M. Livanec at mmlivane@utmb.edu. If you would like to be a member, please complete the membership form.
