Conservation

More than a decade ago a handful of environmentally conscious employees started to meet and called themselves UTMB’s “Recycle Task Force” (RTF). This grassroots group of individuals started out small by volunteering their time to get the paper/cardboard-recycling program off to a great start. This effort has been a real challenge over the years, working with limited resources, and educating staff that we need to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rebuy. We never gave up! We now have partnerships with Browning Ferris Industries (BFI), Sodexho, Morrison Food Management, Moody Gardens (a non-profit garden), and the City of Galveston. We sponsor programs such as Galveston Partners in Composting, The Texas General Land Office’s Adopt-A-Beach Program, and special annual events such as the Earth Day Exposition, Texas/America Recycles Day, Swap Shop, Ronald McDonald House pull-tab program, and Children’s Recycle T-shirt Design Contest. Since 1994 UTMB's efforts have proudly received nine awards.
